Generating Ideas (1)

In this exercise we were first asked to fill in numbers up to 6 in the gaps provided:

 From this we were given a grid with different ideas for, character, location, situation, objects and when. the ideas I was given were, The Second Richest Man in the world, a medieval castle, the genie's visit, the golden amulet and in a few days time. from this we had to create plot line

Genre - Fantasy

plot;

Once apon a time a lonely man lived in a medieval castle at the top of the largest hill in a happy village. He hated everything and was envious with everyone. His main enemy was his brother, the richest man in the world, every since he was a child he felt the second best, his brother won everything and was loved by everyone, so he just followed in his shadows. therefor because he is the second richest man this burned at him everyday making him ill with hatred. He spent most of his days breaking random things from a random room, he never ran out of rooms as he had thousands. when he's not breaking things for no reasons he shouting at his butler and maid, whom have served him since he was 10 yrs old. One day while destroying one of his rooms he noticed The Golden Amulet, it drew him in. Written on it is stated "your wish will come true" thinking nothing of it he handed it to his butler to throw it in the bin. The butler placed it on the side knowing it wasn't just a normal Golden Amulet. 2 days later the amulet began to shine and glow and suddenly appeared a genie.

"You have 1 wish if your chose to use it, I can make anything in your wildest dream to come true but beware every wish has a consequence" said the odd genie

"I want to be the richest man In the world" stated the greedy"

"your wish is my command, in a few days time your wish will come true"

A few days later, as the genie promised he became the richest man, his brother became bankrupt and homeless, causing the family business the close down this stress was too much for his parents who sadly past away, later followed by his brother, so the very rich man sat in his old castle lonely as ever counting his money with no one to share it with.

setting-

The medieval castle is on the tallest hill in the village, the village is happy and bright making the old castle seem odd as it looks like nothing else there, all of the villagers are optimistic and happy, the opposite of the second richest man.

The castle is full with thousands of rooms that are unoccupied, the halls ways are like mazes. the second rithest man mostly stays in the study room where the books fill the wall, this is were he sits on his old wooden desk and oversized chair all day.

The Second Richest Man - Johnny Depp

the second richest man is a very lonely man he is mad with envy, he is very unusual in his mannerisms as he is bored as he has nothing to do all day.

The Genie - Jack Black

the genie is a caricature, he is an comedic characters this conrasts with the sad, angry character of the second riches man

The Richest Man - Benedict Cumberbatch

the richest man is loved by all he shows his lovely side but to his brother he is horrible and constanltly teasing him.

The Maid - Helena Bonham

the maid is a stubborn character and never cleans she uses dark comedy throughout as she is very sarcastic

The Butler - Simon Pegg

the butler is shown as calm but breaks everything he isn't good at his job.

I felt these activities were effective as allowed me to start to think about a narrative in which I would follow and create a short film on.

"A Place Like this"

when considering short films I wanted to portray a real life story. I feel like this would be more engaging and effective to create something with meaning after watching "place like this" by Tall story films. in this short film documentary, we follow one man as he discusses his experiences in world war 2, flying a plane. in this there was only one setting, one person and one true life story. This idea intrigues me as it allows the audience to focus on the story being told rather than the elaborate sets and narrative. After watching this i knew I wanted to create a short film with the genre of a documentary.

When considering true life stories, I was intrigued with the theme of war, but not world war 2 the sewers canal crisis, where thousands of soldiers had to garrison bases in Egypt, they did not die from fighting instead they died from bad conditions. Due to the fact this happened after the war people generally forgot about them causing them to be referred to as the "forgotten war with the forgotten army." Roger the person I based my short film on, was at the sewers canal therefor I felt I could intrigue the audience through a personal story but also educate them about the sewers canal crisis, that many are not aware happened, even though it is a important part of our history that shaped our lives today.
